The culture in Marche has a primary importance being characterized by numerous influences. From pagan to religious festivals, come and discover the cultural experiences of our region.
Pagan and Carnival festivals
The main appointment is that of Fano with the Fano dei Cesari, also home to one of the most prestigious carnival events in the region. Here you can watch parades of giant floats and the final stake in which the great Pupo is burned. Also famous are the Carnival of Ascoli Piceno and Offida, without forgetting the Halloween feast of the witches of Corinaldo.
Religious festivals
Over time, Marche have preserved some events linked to particular religious festivals. The feast that is celebrated to commemorate the coming of the Holy House, with all the hills being lit with fires, is evocative in Loreto on December 9th. There are many living Nativity scenes, among which we recall that of Genga in the scenic Gola di Frasassi and that of the castle of Precicchie, in the municipality of Fabriano. The living crib of Falerone invites you to enter the time machine to reach Palestine in the days of the Roman Empire, while in Altidona, an enchanting village nearby Fermo, the living crib is framed by historic houses and by suggestive alleys that lead to the castle. From Christmas to Easter: the moments of the Passion are recalled in La Turba, an ancient and evocative re-enactment of the scenes of the Good Friday, dating back to 1260, which takes place in Cantiano; other suggestive events are held in Mogliano, in Villa Musone di Loreto, in Porto Sant’Elpidio, Monteprandone, Monte San Pietrangeli, Pioraco, Recanati and Ripatransone.
Festivals linked to the Wheat cycle
One of the most important festivals in the Marche is Festa del Covo, a religious event held every year on the first Sunday of August in the Campocavallo district of Osimo, in the province of Ancona. Among the most ancient, the Processione delle canestrelle of Amandola (FM), a historical re-enactment of the offer of wheat to the Beato Antonio.
